Why an Ampersand?
Technically, an ampersand (&) is the symbol for “and” which originated from the Latin word “et” which combined can look like an &, however, to True Colors Mental Health it represents so much more.
- In a world that is often divided by binaries, we can push past the mentality of either/or and to the inclusion of both/and(&).
- Honoring “ANDS(&)” helps us recognize when we might be engaging black and white thinking which limits our possibilities and balance.
- In Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), it is believed that we can hold space for two opposing truths at the same time (e.g. “This pain feels unbearable & I have tools to work through the pain”.
- Sometimes we need to work on acceptance of our circumstances & recognize where and if change is within our control.
- It resembles a broken infinity that signifies that nothing lasts forever, specifically the painful experiences we may encounter.
- It represents that you are not finished & there is more.
- TCMH honors all the colors of a person’s rainbow… the reds & oranges & yellows & greens & blues & purples &… &… &…
