LGBTQ+ Therapy
Being part of the LGBTQ+ community often comes with additional stress, such as discrimination, identity issues, or low self-esteem. Coping with stigma, discrimination, coming out, and discovering an authentic sense of self amidst social pressures can sometimes lead to depression, anxiety, substance dependance or misuse, or other mental health concerns for LGBTQ+ individuals.
In a society that often fails to affirm or even accept individuality and provide a sense of belonging, LGBTQ+ people sometimes deal with additional stress such as rejection, lack of self-worth, internalized homophobia or transphobia that can lead to feelings of self-doubt and shame. It is also possible that some individuals experience invalidation of identity from peers and family and pressure to conform to certain labels or presentations.
Living in a hetero, monogamous, and cis normative world is enough to create tension and conflict. Therapy can help individuals, couples, families and polycules become the most authentic versions of themselves while identifying protective factors for the journey.
True Colors Mental Health provides LGBTQ+ Affirmative Care for individuals, couples and those in consensual non-monogamous relationships.
